«La competencia por la inversión de Taiwán: Hidalgo, Puebla y Veracruz en la disputa por atraer capital extranjero»

Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz are competing for investments from 20 companies, three associations, and a research center from Taiwan, according to information from the Ministry of Economy. The Taiwanese delegation recognized that global relocation in Mexico represents a great opportunity for them.

Raquel Buenrostro Sánchez, head of the federal agency, stated that in this first stage of the meeting, these states were responsible for detailing the logistical, labor, technological, educational, and security advantages of their entities in order to attract investors from the delegation.

She noted that the next phase of this meeting will consist of meetings with specific groups and business rounds by industry type to match supply and demand, both in terms of the final product and raw materials for PBCs and semiconductors.

«We cannot forget that Mexico is the country in the Americas that has invested the most in infrastructure projects in the last five years: airports, trains, roads, and more. From the government, we are convinced that this will result in greater competitiveness and long-term economic stability that will benefit all the actors involved,» she said.

She highlighted that as a result of three days of work tour in Mexico and more than a semester of meetings and exchange of experiences, the Taiwanese business delegation recognizes the importance of the Interoceanic Corridor, as well as the workforce and young talent that the country offers.

During the closing of the «Business Meeting for Economic Growth and Relocation» held at the Ministry of Economy, the president of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association (TEEMA), Richard Lee, stated that they were very impressed by the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

He stated that «the progress that currently exists in the alliance between Mexico and Taiwan is not limited to a particular region but in all states related to the Interoceanic Corridor.»

For his part, James Huang, president of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAINTRA), said that it is the first time that a delegation of important Taiwanese companies has visited our country.

«Taiwan plays a very relevant role in the supply chain in the industry. Now we are in a situation of global relocation in Mexico, we are seeing that it plays an extremely important role, it is a great opportunity for the country as well as for us,» he said.

Meanwhile, the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Francisco Cervantes Díaz, recognized the work of the Secretary of Economy for this meeting, especially for the message that is sent of unity between the business sector and the Government of Mexico to work in nearshoring.

«Today, the Mexican industry begins a new revolution, which will dramatically modify Mexico’s industrial structure in the next 10 years. The presence of Taiwanese businessmen in Mexico confirms their interest in being protagonists in this transformation,» he said.

During the three-day visit to Mexico last Monday, the Taiwanese mission met in the city of Pachuca with Governor Julio Menchaca, who assured that Hidalgo is a great opportunity for companies.

They visited the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in the State of Mexico, the Platah industrial park, one of the most modern in the country, the Control, Command, Communications, Computing, Coordination and Intelligence Center (C5i), both in the state of Hidalgo.

During their tour of Puebla, Governor Salomón Céspedes highlighted the competitiveness for foreign investment and foreign trade. After visiting Ciudad Modelo, representatives of the Popular Autonomous University of the State of Puebla (UPAEP) and the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics described the profile of their graduates, as well as the research and development they carry out in their academic institutions.

In the city of Cholula, there was a meeting with the governor of the state of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García, who presented the benefits of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) and highlighted that his entity has a surplus of 306 percent in electricity, which positions the entity with the largest installed capacity in the country.

The directors of the Interoceanic Corridor – Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT), Vice Admiral Raymundo Morales, and the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), Ricardo Mota, were also present at the event.

During the three days in Mexico, the Asian-origin entrepreneurs also held meetings with representatives of the National Chamber of Electronics, Telecommunications, and Information Technologies Industry (CANIETI); of Electrical Manufacturing (CANAME); the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) and the National Autoparts Industry (INA).

On the work tour, the foreign delegation was accompanied by the Undersecretaries of Foreign Trade, Alejandro Encinas, and Industry and Commerce, Abel Romero, as well as the head of the Global Economic Intelligence Unit, Irais Barreto, all of them from the Ministry of Economy.

As well as the Secretaries of Economic Development of Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz, Carlos Henkel, Olivia Salomón, and Enrique Nachón, respectively, in addition to businessmen from the three entities.
